Stricter ATV rules in Manalapan
The number of deaths relating to ATV riding has been on a rapid rise ever since the sport has spread its wings and more and more people of all ages, sex and income has come to embrace ATV as part of their lifestyle. In Manalapan, things will take a drastic change because the Township Committee has just received a draft of an ordinance designed to restrict and help regulate the use of ATVs in Manalapan. On that note, we wish to state that most of the death and injury cases relating to ATV riding are results of inexperience and lack of knowledge. Therefore, we strongly urge beginner ATV riders to consult with a professional ATV rider before attempting to ride an ATV on their own. Better yet if you can get yourself enrolled into an ATV training class or hire an ATV guide to go with you whenever you're riding an ATV trail or track. The proposed Manalapan ordinance aims to prohibit use of ATVs within 500 feet of a religious facility, a school (irregardless of whether the school is public or private) and provide a 200 feet buffer zone between these areas. The actual intention of the ordinance is stop ATV riders from using their ATVs on private property. This is the wish of one of the governing bodies who are deeply troubled by the abusive use of private property for ATV riding…without permission. The ordinance provides exemptions for people who consistently use ATVs on farms and residents who use ATVs related to their jobs. For instance, snow removal and cleanup of property. As far as recreational use of ATV is concerned, the rule remains fixed. The proposed ordinance wishes to penalize offenders via a fine for first time offence and confiscation of ATV for second offense. How effective this rule will be in Manalapan is yet to be seen but this is the first step to be taken in ensuring Manalapan remains a safe and hassle-free place to reside in.
