Safety First
With the rising popularity of ATV riding, there is a dramatic need to promote safe ATV riding not only in the US of A but also all around the world. Yes, ATV riding is predominantly more popular in USA and a large part of Europe , but who's to say the fad won't make its way to smaller developing countries. And we all know we should never wait until something happens before we do the right thing!
As can be seen, there are more and more accidents happening because of indifference towards safe ATV riding, in particular, among kids and teens. Most of them are caused by the ATV riders who fail to wear their safety helmets while riding. There is an increasingly alarming number of kids getting in fatal and non-fatal accidents because they refuse or neglect to wear their helmets when on their ATVs.
The key to nipping this problem in the bud is to actually educate these kids before they even start developing an interest in riding ATVs. Does it matter if they didn't what ATV is? Nope, not at all. The moment we take the bold step of educating them and informing them about the importance of safe ATV riding while they are young, we are protecting them from future accidents. The younger they are, the better. The key is to stop them from ever developing bad riding habits so that they will not flout safety rules, drink while riding ATV or refuse to wear their helmets for the sake of looking cool.
One such authority who recognized the need to educate the younger generation about safe ATV riding is the Hatfield-McCoy Regional Authority (HMRRA). HMRRA together with ATV Safety Institute ( ASI ) is currently reaching out into schools to slowly educate and train young kids about safe ATV riding. They know that the only way to get the message across is to make learning more fun, exciting and yet, educational at the same time. And we have to admit that this is not an easy task. Learning is not always fun…and especially if we're talking about young kids.
But to tap into their minds, we have to use methods and ways that are familiar and fun to them. for instance, CD-Roms, games, programs, computer games, coloring activities…etc. It's just better than just instructors giving lectures about the importance of safe ATV riding. With some creativity, hopefully, the next generation will be able to enjoy ATV riding without having to suffer injuries and accidents as much as this generation. And it's our job and responsibility to ensure that they know where the boundaries are, what the rules are and how important it is to observe safety rules when riding ATV.
