Riding ATV is Good for the Kids

Many parents....too many of them view ATV riding as something dangerous....which is something that I find a little depressing. Riding an ATV is good for the health! Especially for kids. We live in an ultra-modern society whereby we're surrounded by radio waves emitted from the personal computer, the television, the radio, cell phones, microwave ovens, etc. Kids these days don't live the kind of lives we used to live anymore. I mean, think about it a little and try to remember how we used to be kids. You may not have had the privilege of owning your own ATV as a child but did you climb trees? Did you sneak out for a quick swim in the pond? Did your parents take you out on a picnic, a ride in the park on your bicycle?
In the concrete jungle that we live in today, the way I see it, our kids need a lot more exercise than they get. Look at the stats for a little shocker! An astounding number of American kids and adults are obese and in dire need of exercise. ATV riding is a healthy alternative and I strongly encourage it with my kids. It's something that we love to do together and we have a lot of fun as a family. It doesn't have to be an ATV, of course, because if your kid loves to ride dirt bike, then fine. If he/she likes to ride a bicycle, even better! But my kids love riding their ATVs and it comes close to eating a tub of ice-cream for my girl.

The only concern is their safety. OK, I'll admit that ATV riding isn't all that safe....but then again, think of something COMPLETELY safe and let me know because the only activity that I know that is completely safe is....sleeping or doing absolutely nothing! Then again, if you're really unlucky, you might even choke on your own saliva while sleeping....so, sleeping isn't all that safe either.
So, the point here is this - nothing is absolutely safe in this life. The whole point of living is to enjoy our lives as we can. If your kid loves riding his or her ATV, then be it. Your role as a parent is to make sure your child or teenager knows that safety is to be regarded as the number one priority. My kids know that I would go absolutely bananas if I found them riding their kids ATVs without wearing all the safety gears that I have bought them.
I believe that kids should be active and be outdoors once in a while instead of staying at home and playing their Nintendos! Let the kids live a proper life but putting them outside....let them ride their ATVs...let them be kids!
