Proper ATV riding gear can reduce the chance of injury, while also making sure you have a fun ride. ATV riding gear protects your head, eyes, hands and feet from falls, flying debris, and accidental run-ins with shrubs. Good ATV riding gear also makes riding more comfortable, while helping you fend off fatigue. So what is the right ATV riding gear? ATV riding gear includes an approved helmet, eye protection, boots, gloves, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt or jacket. A helmet is first on the ATV riding gear list. The most important piece of ATV riding gear, a helmet can you help prevent a serious head injury.

When you select your helmet, definitely purchase one that meets your state's safety standard – if not actually going above-and-beyond those standards. Also make sure your helmet is labeled by one of the following: the Department of Transportation, the American National Standards Institute, or the Snell Memorial Foundation. And, find a helmet that fits tightly and fastens firmly. If you opt for an open-faced helmet as part of your ATV riding gear, certainly use mouth protection as well. Whether you choose the lighter and cooler open-faced helmet or the full-faced helmet, definitely put eye protection on your ATV riding gear list. A face shield or goggles will guard you from any flying objects, such as a twig or pebble. Don't make the mistake of thinking sunglasses are enough. They won't protect your eyes from fast-flying debris.

Next on the ATV riding gear list are a pair of low-heeled, over-the-ankle books. These help prevent your feet from slipping, while protecting your feet, ankles, and lower legs in case of a fall. Gloves are also on the ATV riding gear list. Gloves keep your hands from getting sore and cold, and they offer protection. Padded riding gloves are really the way to go, since they also help prevent bruising. Your ATV riding gear also needs to include a long-sleeved shirt or jacket and a pair of long pants. These protect you from getting scratches when you fall or inadvertently swipe a plant. For extra protection, ride your ATV in clothing that includes padding on the knees, chest and shoulders.
