Some ATV tips from the experts to help you ride ATV better
Once you've learned all the basics of ATV riding, you might be considering learning up some ATV tricks. Now, if you're below 12, please do not even consider doing any ATV tricks yet unless you're under close adult supervision! Doing ATV tricks without adult supervision and guidance is absolutely dangerous. For the rest of us who are already accustomed to our ATVs, here are some tips for you. Although the tips we'll be putting on here is not technically ATV tricks stuff but it will help you become better at ATV riding especially when you ride on rough outdoor ATV tracks and trails. Riding over obstacles Here's the thing about going over obstacles…your first reaction when you approach an obstacle may be to rev up the ATV and go at the ATV obstacle full force….but don't. Climbing over them may be a better idea. For example, if you have a stairstep to overcome, you approach the ATV obstacle straight on without powering up your ATV too much. The reason behind it is simple – if you don't want to end up doing a sudden and unintended wheelie, climb it steadily. Once the front wheels of the ATV goes over the obstacle, don't slow down and rev up (same problem as above) and instead, just keep the momentum going when your front wheels go over. Getting over the hill Some inexperienced people might try to ride their ATVs up a hilly terrain sideways…more like at an angle thinking that riding the ATV sideways might be easier and the ATV won't slide off as much. But our experts reveal that if in the eventuality that the ATV does slide off the hilly ATV terrain sideways there's a lot of rolling to be done on the way down which might cause injury! If you climb the hill up front, the ATV may just slide down in the same angle that it went up…wheels on the bottom. Drink when you're done with your ATVing as a form of celebration It's common, for some reason, for ATV enthusiasts to drink a little (or a lot) of alcohol while riding their ATVs – now, although this is common sense and lots of people have warned against drinking and driving, it continues to be a habit. If you cannot control or restrain yourself, don't start. In fact, we prefer to drink after we're done with our ATV riding as a form of celebration….you should too. Getting yourself out of the muck by spinning? Don't know why but it's our instinct to spin the wheels of the ATV whenever we're stuck in mud – and according to the experts, that's a bad, bad thing to do. The more you spin the ATV wheels, the bigger the hole you're going to be digging the ATV into! Hence, once you feel that the ATV isn't coming out of the hole, the tip here is to STOP! And then try wriggling your ATV from side to side instead; it might give the ATV wheels a better grip. If it doesn't work, it's time to wring out that winch, folks. Getting stuck in mud can test your patience and might even result in an intense expletive vocabulary diarrhea – but keep your cool and focus on finding a BETTER way to get out instead of cursing at the situation you're in! Listen, the most important part about riding trails is to enjoy it, know the basics and learn along the way. As long as you keep your cool, your calm and use your head, there's loads to be learned. |
