Bring the kids but don’t forget the KIT!!
Taking the kids out for a trip…a long-awaited holiday in a faraway land (albeit track or ATV trail) so that the whole family can spend some time together and reconnect with each other? Yup, it's all cool. There's nothing quite like taking the kids out to somewhere far and foreign to have some fun to put some zest back in your life.
Since you're bringing the ATV and the kids…you shouldn't forget about the kit.
What kit, you're asking?
We're talking about that tool kit that came along with the ATV when you first bought it. Performing maintenance and repair in the middle of nowhere without the required tools ain't fun, let us tell you that! Suffice to say that although the tool kit contains almost everything you'll need to perform the very basic tasks of repairing your ATV when it's down and out, it's not quite enough if there's a major breakdown. For example, you cannot forget tools for repairing your ATV tires. It's invaluable! Let's face it, even on the flattest of tracks, there are going to be loads of sharp and pointy objects that could potentially damage your ATV tires, so, you're going to need it when that happens.
And before you start laughing, you're not going to believe how wonderful an invention the duct tape and Zip ties are. When things come loose and need some quickie patching work, you're going to thank your lucky stars you've got them. And of course, you can't do without the quick links either because they can get you out of muddy and sticky situations. Erm…those links don't work quite that well without the rope, so, bring them too.
Other things you should consider if you want to stay on the safe side are spare chains, extra spark plugs (so that you can replace it and don't have to push your ATV back to civilization) and a screwdriver with multiple tips (it can be frustrating when you've got a screwdriver but it doesn't work).
When you've got kids in tow, you've just got to do your best to ensure that almost (we say almost because you cannot foresee everything…or can you?) all grounds are covered.
