Borich Bags GNCC ATV title over Ballance
Apr 10, 2007
The Killer B's have always dominated the ATV racing scene and this year's GNCC looked as though it was Bill Ballance's. However, Chris Borich wasn't about to give up because he showed us all what he was made of. Bill Ballance spent most of the year winning ATV races as Chris Borich looks on. The battle isn't over till it's over – as Chris Borich shows us in FMF Steele Creek GNCC where Borich bagged the win. Instead of giving us the conventional ‘good lead' show, Chris Borich gave Bill Ballance a run for his money only at the last round. He got the holeshot and gave it everything he had and performed tremendously well battling it out with Ballance who had a good 15 seconds lead. Despite lagging behind a little after hitting a tree and getting stuck in the mud, having had to change his gloves, ‘giving up' wasn't an option. It wasn't before the last lap when Borich made his way around Bill Balance to grab the lead – and did his level best to keep ahead the whole lap through. Bill Ballance, taking the second spot, says that it is easier being second than being the lead because he had a hard time getting past the lappers who did not know that he was behind them. Being in the lead, hence, is harder than one expected because lappers unknowingly slows down the leader and since Ballance did not have as much lead as he wanted (15 seconds was good but not nearly as good as it should be), he let Borich snitch the lead from under his nose. Bryan Cook, in the meantime, snagged the third podium spot on his Excel/DeRisi/Pirelli ATV on top of Chris Bithell who missed the podium by a mere few seconds. In the meantime, William Yokley, who had a poor start, managed to make it fifth, anyway. Borich had his team and a newly modified ATV to thank for. Previously, if you recall, Borich had one poor start too many and decided to find out what was wrong with his ATV. After changing a few changes, he couldn't be happier with the machine. He says that after the change, his ATV had no problems starting up at all. With his renewed confidence, repaired ATV, we can expect to see a lot more action and friction between Bill Ballance and Chris Borich for the rest of the year as they butt-head each other for the title spot. |
