Better equipped lawmakers is what we need

With the rising number of deaths and critical injuries related to ATV riding, it's hardly any surprise at all that the lawmakers are starting to take a closer look at the laws governing ATV riding. Are they good enough to protect ATV enthusiasts from injuring themselves and others? Is it tight enough? Is the law concerning ATV riding updated?

More children and young teens are riding ATVs these days. No doubt, most of the ATVs that the kids and today's youth ride today are safe because these kids ATVs are designed with specs suitable for their age…but….some preteens and youths are allowed to ride their parents' ATVs. Which is a big no-no in any case!

With that said, the lawmakers are trying to come up with stricter rules to ensure that the people riding ATV are safe. These safety rules also help ensure that others who are not ATV fans are not injured or killed along the way. But the question now would be…are our law makers equipped with enough knowledge (or experience) to adequately come up with laws for ATV riders? Wouldn't it be better if the law makers had hands-on experience before they can properly make the ATV rules?

And this is precisely what the lawmakers are doing as can be seen when they packed their stuff and headed for the Hatfield-McCoy Trails for some fun…oh, erm…training. The lawmakers were obviously quite excited with the prospect of being given training in the line of work as more than a dozen turned up.

Some of them who turned up had good experiences and promised to keep to the game while same vowed NEVER to touch an ATV again. All in all, at the very least, we know that these lawmakers would have an easier time putting themselves into the shoes of ATV riders before they pass a law again.
