I've always wanted to get my own quad after watching my sister ride hers with her quad friends…but I didn't really had the guts to go ahead and get it yet. One day, I decided to get the quad and the moment I got it home, my kids were clamoring all over it. As it is, I was so excited about my new quad that I, myself, was acting like a big kid over it.
To me, that was the start of all that nagging from my kids about having their own quads too! Part of the appeal, I guess came from getting to wear all that gear just before getting on the quad itself. Ethan, my second son said, “Mom, wow…you look like a spacewoman. Totally cool!”
Well, in the beginning, I might as well be a spacewoman trying to maneuver a rocketship because my kids had fun watching my fumble around on my new quad. Not even all that cool ATV could save me…my 3-day-old quad got a nice little scratch as a result of my fumbling around.
Two weeks later, thankfully, I got it to go where I wanted it to go when I wanted it to go wherever. On a Sunday morning, I took my 2 kids shopping and we spotted a place selling kid quads! My kids went beserk and dragged me there; we checked out some pretty nice kid quads, including the Kazuma Meerkat…which according to my sister and her friends is the best kind of kids' quads a kid can ask for. To get one kid quad is one thing…to get two (since both my kids were there and wanted one each) is quite another. I really was going to bust a budget here. But after much persuasion and feet-stomping, we went home with two new kid quads. The kids had so much fun toying around with their new kid quads while I inspected my financial damage. The conclusion is…I could have done worse shopping for clothes and jewelry.
The smile, laughter and joy on the faces of my kids said it all…and suddenly the financial damage and potential months of recouping from it seem all worth it.
These days, instead of spending the weekends lazily crawling the malls or dashing around from one class to another, me and my kids go out and ride our ATVs together. Now, all I can say is that the quads brought us all closer together. The whole family has a more fun time bonding with each other, showing off our newly discovered skill while laughing at each others' goof-ups. |
